New Wings
You were the roots of a vine
That bore much fruit
Whose seed gave life
To a generation
That dared to dream
For a better world
You were the provider
The silent strength
Yet as fragile as a boy inside
As age took back your wings
And the body that cradled you
Began to stir for its own release
You took the change of season
With a gentle dignity
And an inner grace
I celebrate your transition
For you have moved on
And woven new wings
Out of the roots
That once bound you to earth
Wings that allow
The poet heart of yours
To soar at last
Past the boundaries of a life
Whose limits no longer apply
You are a new being
Reborn into the beyond
Your work is done here
Go in peace…..
